Video: West Irondequoit - Summit on Race invites Missouri students
Students in West Irondequoit hosted the first local student summit on race. members from the gateway-2-change project from St. Louis, and Ferguson, Missouri joined the students to talk about their personal experience, and how it can relate to problems of race in Rochester. students from several districts worked in groups to discuss topics of race, racism, and privilege. ((sot)) (( Drew Schwartz - founder - Gateway2Change )) "some student leaders from St. Louis came and facilitated conversation through gateway2change, to actually bring the student voice to the table. and listen to not only what their ideas for the present are, but aspirations and ideas fro creating a more equitable Rochester."((sot)) (( Anna Weldy - student - west Irondequoit hs ))"it was really hard at first, 'cause it was like, 'i'm not racist...' and I was kind of being put in the position where I felt kinda bad about being white... but I later learned that I can take that... and make a change.
